Cells At Work! Releases Teaser Trailer, Exploring Our Bodies Once Again In Live-Action Adaptation Format

The popular, unique, and educational manga series, Cells At Work!, is getting a live-action adaptation. Moreover, the staff and new casts are revealed along with the release date. The teaser trailer was officially released on the 11th of June by the official X(Twitter) account of the live-action film Cells At Work! The live-action will premiere in December 2024 featuring the daily lives of Red Blood Cell and White Blood Cell working 24/7, 365 days a year.



Staff and Cast Details


The script will be written by Yuichi Tokunaga(popular for Kaguya-Sama Love is War). The main character, Red Blood Cell, will be the role of Mei Nagano and White Blood Cell will be Takeru Sato. The director for the film will be Hideki Takeuchi( popular for Nodame Cantabile live-action and Therma Romae). 


What is Cells At Work!


Cells at Work is a Japanese Manga Series written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu. The manga series is entirely about the intricate happenings inside of a human’s body featuring different cells in anthropomorphic form. The main characters feature a single Red Blood Cell named AE3803 and a White Blood Cell named U-1146. The Red Blood Cell’s entire existence is to deliver oxygen by traveling through the pulmonary artery to the lungs. It then makes its way back to the heart and the cycle continues. For the White Blood Cell, its existence is purely fighting viruses, bacteria, or any other foreign invaders inside your body. The series simply follows the everyday jobs of White Blood Cells and Red Blood Cells as it also features different cells such as platelets, killer T cells, macrophages, and many more cells involved in your body in certain situations. 


In terms of plot, it mostly is about what these cells do in a daily basis 24/7 in handling different situations that commonly occur to such as sneezing, having a fever, getting lumps, bleeding, injuries, and many more. 


The visuals are mostly represented that is similar to industrial establishments using certain technologies to emphasize and help readers and viewers understand what they do using the aforementioned visuals. 


The manga first received its anime adaptation back in July 2018. The uniqueness and educational nature of the series received its well-deserved success. Because of its concept and settings, the show is friendly for all ages and all kinds of audiences. The second season follows in January 2021 along with the Spinoff Cells at Work! Code Black. 


Cells at Work Live Action Film Adaptation

Cells At Work! manga also has multiple spinoffs and the anime adapted one of it which is the Cells At Work! Code Black. The manga and anime adaptation of Cells At Work! Code Black features a very different tone and theme, the cells are working inside a very unhealthy person with an unhealthy lifestyle that makes the protagonists Red Blood Cell and White Blood Cell suffer 24/7 in fighting every sickness and disease they encounter, hence taking the darker route from the original series. 


There are also other spinoffs such as Cells at Work! Baby - which features the cells inside a newborn baby, Cells at Work! Lady - featuring inside a pregnant woman, Cells at Work! Friend - featuring Killer T Cells as protagonists, Cells at Work! Platelets - featuring the adorable platelets repairing wounds, Cells at Work! White - featuring the non-stop war of White Blood Cells, and also the mentioned Cells at Work! Code Black. 


Where to Watch Cells At Work! Anime


Though the live-action adaptation is featured, there is also an alternate option to watch the series while waiting for the upcoming live-action which is the anime adaptation. Some official streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll and Netflix which is available in selected regions only.
